The Buffalo Run United Methodist Charge Coat Ministry, located on Route 550 at the crossroads of Buffalo Run Road and Rock Road, will be open to distribute free winter coats and accessories (hats, gloves, boots) from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. through January 26. Santa Express Train Rides

Tickets are on sale for the Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society's Santa Express Train Rides December 14-16. All rides are round trip, leaving from the beautiful, historic railroad station in Bellefonte's Talleyrand Park and feature and feature Christmas music, visits from the season's popular characters and a reading of Chris Van Allsburg's Polar Express. Now that the election is finally over, there are thousands of yard signs that will be disposed of. To cut down on the campaign yard sign waste, the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority is offering a Political Sign Recycling Drop-Off Program. Just bring your campaign yard sign(s) to the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority by November 23 for it to be recycled. Please bring your sign(s) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday to Building A, at the Authority. Come through the main doors and look for the drop-off box.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring an essay contest for Centre County students in grades 5-8. Essays must be 300-1,000 words (depending on grade level) and should focus on often unrecognized people and groups, including African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and others who provided military, patriotic or public services in support of the American Revolution.
