The Center for the Performing Arts presents Ron Carter Trio November 8, 2012 at Schwab Auditorium. A musician’s musician. That’s Ron Carter. In a career spanning more than half a century, the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master has been so continually in demand that he’s performed on more than 2,000 albums. He’s not only one of the most prolific bassists in jazz, he’s also one of the most influential. Carter came to fame as a member of the second renowned Miles Davis Quintet, a 1960s group that included Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. Since then he’s performed, as a leader and a sideman, with a multitude of first-rank players. Carter performs at Penn State with guitarist Russell Malone and pianist Donald Vega. To cut down on the campaign yard sign waste, the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority is offering a Political Sign Recycling Drop-Off Program. Just bring your campaign yard sign(s) to the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority by November 23 for it to be recycled. Please bring your sign(s) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday to Building A, at the Authority. Come through the main doors and look for the drop-off box.

Essays must be 300-1,000 words (depending on grade level) and should focus on often unrecognized people and groups, including African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and others who provided military, patriotic or public services in support of the American Revolution. Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week

While most people in the Pennsylvania are preparing for the holiday activities, Centre County volunteers with Operation Christmas Child – the world's largest Christmas project of its kind – are filling shoe box gifts with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for needy children overseas. This year-round project of international Christian relief and evangelism organizations Samaritan's Purse, headed by Franklin Graham, is ramping up as local businesses, churches, schools and community groups prepare to collect 12,415 gift-filled shoe boxes during National Collection Week November 12-19. Anyone can drop off a packed shoe box at one the six locations in the Central Region area collection site. Then, using whatever means necessary-trucks, trains, boats, bikes and even elephants-the shoe box gifts will be hand delivered to hurting children in 100 countries around the world.
