DAR Grade 5-8 Essay Contest

The Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring an essay contest for Centre County students in grades 5-8. Essays must be 300-1,000 words (depending on grade level) and should focus on often unrecognized people and groups, including African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and others who provided military, patriotic or public services in support of the American Revolution. The Centre County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is having an essay contest for Centre County students in grades 9-12. The title of the essay is "How did the faith and courage of Christopher Columbus give to mankind a new world?" Essays should be between 800 and 1200 words, and the deadline is November 30. Wishing Well Campaign Volunteers

Interfaith Human Services is seeking volunteers to staff the wishing wells during the group's Wishing Well Campaign, November 23-December 22, at The Corner Room and Meyer Dairy. Volunteers are needed for one hour increments from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. daily. Funds received will help low-income Centre County residents.
